Does the AHDBT-001 battery work with the Hero2?

Postby hokie0355 » Sun Jan 01, 2012 5:35 am

As opposed to the AHDBT-002. The 001 was the original battery for the Hero Original. Thanks!

The 001 came with the original HD Hero? (All gopro cameras seem to have been called 'Hero', from the 35mm, through the 3 & 5 megapixel)

I just looked at my batteries (I have a Hero1 and a Hero2), and until your post I didn't know they were different.

As it happens I currently have the 001 in my Hero2 and the 002 on my Hero1, and they both worked fine on Thursday. I also have a non-gopro battery from eBay that works perfectly.

They are all the same size, same capacity and same voltage, so whatever the differences are they must be internal, as all three of my different batteries are form, fit & function replacements for each other.

Wokka, thanks so much for the reply! That's good to know so that I can buy the 001. Thanks!

Good spot hookie,I had not noticed the difference either. Now that I've looked I also notice some extra info on the front of the batteries from HERO2,4.07 WH,what does this mean?...Watt Hours?
Top battery,4A,is AHDBT 002 from Hero2,bottom battery,4B,is AHDBT 001 from Battery Bac-Pac.Purchased together at same time, mated for life.

Watt Hour rating has appeared on many lipo packs in recent 1-2yrs,
just my guess but i'd suspect its for postoffices to determine "postage safety".
Large lipo packs can't go on cargo planes anymore, only ship/surface travel.

Watt Hours is the best way to put apples-to-apples in batteries. Volts x Amps = Watts, or in this case V x Ah = Wh, so the standard battery provides 3.7V x 1100Ah = 4.07Wh. Similarly, an external 5V, 5000mAh battery would provide 25.0Wh.

As an HD1 takes about 2.5 hours to use up a 4.07Wh battery, it would be using about 1.6 Watts per hour and thus a 25Wh external battery should last about 15.4 hours. (It's not entirely this simple as the 5V runs through a different circuit, but works as a good point of reference)
