I am having sleepless nites in anticipation waiting for these cameras, i have paying jobs waiting to slot these in. But don't throw a way your Std Def Wides yet, with a little tweaking you can get great images from them. Check this video just after the start of the race, i have 2 GoPro's mounted in the cockpit areas and the IQ is fantastic. Further into the video a former Aussie Ironman Guy Leech, wipes out and the GoPro captures great underwater and on location footage. http://www.vimeo.com/6809108

Ay up!

I pre ordered a HD Hero and sent a request along with it for a spare battery. Unfortunately these aren't available separately yet :( so I guess I'll have to wait till the Piggy back accessories come out which is scheduled sometime around christmas.

Have to say, this is the first time I've ever bought something on 'pre order' and it is a bit nerve wracking! Without a spare battery you wouldn't want to go too far from a power source... 2 and a half hours goes pretty quick when you're having fun! ;)

It's still a bit unclear if the piggyback screen will fit in the casing or not, or even if it'll get past the CGI artist's impression stage :?

Its due to ship out end of this month and take a couple of weeks to get all the way over to sunny Ireland so I'll post a review (along with a load of others I'm sure)

Good luck and keep yer fingers crossed! :D

Yes geezzer i agree with you, it's unclear about the port going thru the waterproof case. See if i can find out it would be an engineering marvel if it did. From the info i have the LCD screen will plug in for playback LATER. It's possible a deeper casing might be available to accommodate the extra battery and other pluggable accessories.

A friend already emailed them about the fitting of the bakpac accessories and heres their response...

The waterproof housing of the HD HERO has a removable back door. So, with the bakpac accessories a larger back door will be included to accommodate the bakpac within the housing.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Many thanks,

i noticed some vendors selling these for $270 shipped. i, of course, have to deal with the hassle and added expense of shipping to hawaii though.

Sorry STI, no sympathy from me!

I've pre-ordered one from California and I'm in New Zealand! Hope I get it for Christmas!
