would be very! interested to have a look at it^^
to see if one could reduce lag/latency...

tried to grab it but just get a file I cannot edit :/

Have attached the file to this post (note its *not* a zip file, I had to rename it to make it upload)

thanks a lot! that did it, now i know what i needed to know ;-)
to open/edit it, simply rename to *.txt and open it in text editor^^

works for me
remember the custom way of creating such an *.m3u8 ? i inserted 0.3 seconds duration for the clips, was jerky...was also jerky with 0.2 seconds, so i figured, must have been something in between, this files tells me it is 0.26693 seconds each, hehe!
plus it has 2-3 more parameters set , then my self-created script!
so with this now i hopefully will be able to reduce lag quite noticeable, at the cost of needing to manually start the cam and immediately afterwards open the script but not too soon, since the files will not be created just ahlf a second after ;-)
i guess timing is crucial there, but this can/could reduce lag quite a bit, anyways, will see^^

thx alot

Hi guys,

great job on this - interesting research. Wanted to add a couple of things I think I figured out so far:

- Looks like the stream is not depending on the camera being in recording mode. The App can turn on and off the stream independently from recording. Still have to figure out how it is done.

- When stream is off and you start recording the stream goes to on - so this might in deed be the best way for all those withou the iPhone App

- Here is the content of my amba.m3u8 file - it differs a little bit in regard to the length of the segments:
#EXTM3U #EXT-X-ALLOW-CACHE:NO #EXT-X-TARGETDURATION:1 #EXT-X-VERSION:3 #EXT-X-MEDIA-SEQUENCE:49 #EXTINF:0.26666, amba_hls-49.ts #EXTINF:0.26666, amba_hls-50.ts #EXTINF:0.26666, amba_hls-51.ts #EXTINF:0.26666, amba_hls-52.ts #EXTINF:0.26666, amba_hls-53.ts #EXTINF:0.26666, amba_hls-54.ts #EXTINF:0.26666, amba_hls-55.ts #EXTINF:0.26666, amba_hls-56.ts

- My guess the difference in lengths might be cause by different settings of NTSC / PAL? Not sure though ...

- Files keep counting up above 999 ... just continues with 1000 ....

- Somebody mentioned he had set up a proxy to capture the communication between app and camera. Haven´t done that you - but will try this too ...

Regards - Peweiss

Live streaming for non iOS users continued… :-)

I DON'T GIVE ANY GUARANTEES THAT THIS WON'T HARM OR KILL YOUR HD HERO2 OR WIFI BACPAC. USE WITH CAUTION.
EXAMPLE 1: TURN OFF STREAMING WHEN RECORDING WITH PROTUNE, THIS IS THE WAY THE APP ACTS.

Here is how you turn on your camera and start streaming, ofcourse you need to be connected to the wifi of the gopro wifi bacpac.

Replace WIFIPASSWORD with your WiFi password.

Turn ON the Camera:
http://10.5.5.9/bacpac/PW?t=WIFIPASSWORD&p=%01

Wait about 15 Seconds for the Camera to turn on and the web interface to start.
Then turn streaming ON:
http://10.5.5.9/camera/PV?t=WIFIPASSWORD&p=%02

Use VLC or whatever to watch the stream..
http://10.5.5.9:8080/live/amba.m3u8

If you want to turn the streaming OFF:

Nice find Johan. You wouldn't happen to know more commands ? Like start/stop recording ?
And so I guess non-recording preview works the same as while recording (.ts files) ?
One last thing, can I ask what version of VLC you are using, mine just play one file...

Do you have any special options when using VLC. I am using open network with a URL of http://10.5.5.9:8080/live/amba.m3u8 but am getting errors saying cannot open amba_hls-625.ts

Great work on this !

Hi Johan,

great information on the camera control commands - won´t have the time to research those myself, so wondering how you got them?

Also I´m suprised there are the wifi passwords in the command strings. How would the App know those as I don´t think I provided the App with my Wifi password, right?

Interesting stuff - keep going -

Thanks very much to all who have made the investigation and made possible to see previews of the gopro in our PC and android devices.

Does anyone knows of a free app to see videos in android devices?? VPlayer is free to try but it costs 4.99€
