"not enough space" issue -- FIXED in 2.5.6 (exists in 2.5.4)

"not enough space" issue -- FIXED in 2.5.6 (exists in 2.5.4)

Postby sporter » Thu Feb 13, 2014 1:44 pm

Just downloaded the latest version and am seeing the following:

"There is not enough space available to convert all the files selected."

I have over 100GB available and I've tried playing with directory and quality settings but nothing helps. I was able to convert a single clip in a dummy project from the same source video but no go on my real project with 20+ clips.

Where do I find a prior version of Studio to download -- of course I deleted the old .exe trying to free up disk space!

When the video files are converted to AVI the size of the file increases greatly because it is no longer compressed.
Cineform AVI files can be as big as 2 GB per minute of video sometimes larger. So if your 20 clips are on average 5 minutes or more then 100GB will not be enough space to send all the converted files to that location.

I suggest you buy an external hard drive for some extra space to send the AVI files or put everything that is clogging your computer onto the external drive and free up space to work with AVI files on internal drives.

The total of the clips is just over 6 minutes so I don't think that's the issue. I've gone through this exact same editing cycle with similar video a dozen times on the previous version of the software with less disk space and never had any issues. I'm fairly confident this is a bug in the new version and I'd like to revert back to an older version so I can continue to make progress.

Thanks if anyone has a pointer to how/where to obtain a prior release of Studio.

That's very frustrating and it sounds like you've been working on it for awhile.

If Rambo allows it, maybe we could make a sticky thread in which different versions of GPS get loaded. It is free software after all. Then if you need an earlier version you just go get it. I have a few DMG versions for Mac D which won't help you unfortunately. Think I will save all of them now going forward.

Also, if you have your backup procedures working, you should be able to find an earlier downloaded version?

I keep looking at this thread and getting confused. I think the OP has the same name as me :)

Found the 2.0.0.285 version here on cnet.com:

http://download.cnet.com/GoPro-Studio/3000-18515_4-75974744.html?tag=rb_content;contentBody

Just click on the "Direct Download Link" to get the .exe rather than CNET's installer.

I installed, fired it up, loaded my project, and converted with no problems. Hard drive space was 110GB prior to conversion and 98.1GB after.

Are you using "autosave" by any chance? I generally turn things like that off and use hot-key-saves periodically in most programs.

Yes, I did see an autosave file and in fact opted to load one after a system crash. Didn't look to see if autosave is something you can configure -- the new version was just doing it. In any case, the same saved project failed to convert in 2.0.1.317 but worked fine in 2.0.0.285

I had the same exact problem. Was getting the error on converting 5-30 second clips of my SCUBA trip to Bonaire even though the external drive I'm saving to has over 1TB free. Reverting to the old version solved it.
