120 fps problem on Mac

Postby Boatname » Thu Oct 20, 2016 4:54 am

Resolution 720

FPS 120

Playing back on Mac

Image

10 minute clip

Image

Plays back normally for about 30 seconds then runs really slowly between the lines you can see below

Image

Also note the clip has increased to 31 minutes.

Have done all the normal things ... reformatted card, updated Gopro, rebooted Mac but it keeps happening.

All settings other than 120fps playback fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Quicktime is a VERY poor player for uncommon FPS and very high FPS. This is what I seen for QT on PC.
I dont own a Mac, but I bought for my kids. McBook Pro and some 1 lower end model, I forgot the model, very recent buy but not the one with USB-C port.

My son McBook Pro of 2012, at that time handling 2.7K Protune file of Black3 original in 2013, its stutter already. Using QT.

Try VLC for Mac, its smoother and better in most cases than QT.

If you have PC, use MPC. This is the best I know of.

Good luck.

Thanks for that, I bought the Mac with the biggest memory possible so am very disappointed that the supplied software (QT) is the weak link.

I'll look at VLC

Thanks again.

OK, progress.

VLC plays it back normally.

iMovie imports the file in from the GoPro folder with the speed problem BUT all I have to do is set the speed to normal in iMovie and it plays fine.

THEN I can select the slower speed I want which is why I recorded at 120 fps in the first place.

Good news then :D

Okey dokey....sounds good. I am happy for you.
Memory is not all you need. High speed powerful CPU is one other important one.4 core i7 and 2.7 Ghz up or higher is good to have.
VLC is super capable and it drains less CPU power too.

I have a lesser spec Mac mini and it plays my 120 fps and 240 files fine.

You can drag and move those bars so that it plays full speed all the way through. Drag both bars to the end of the footage.

Worked for me.
