Safety Cord

Anyone use a back up for the mount should it come off or break? Could you glue something on to the housing like one of those glue on surfboard leash mounts? Are there glues you should avoid? Thanks - David (camera #2 in the mail . . . will it be here for the DOH weekend :o ?

I have heard of the mount breaking when used on bicycles. Because of this, I use velcro to attatch the cam to the handlebars or rear seat stays, then I tape over that to doubly ensure it's tight, THEN I use plastic wire ties looped through the open mount holes on the GoPro housing and secure that to the bike (around the bars or seat post). There is NO WAY that camera is going anywhere no matter how hard and violent the rider may crash. The riders in races I have had carry it (MUCH faster than me) have all approved this method and feel very confident that their safety isn't compromised.

I'd like to hear more from users who have had mounts break. It does happen, I've seen it. I was using a velcro mount with a 'zip tie' through the factory mount holes in case my mount failed. Well, wouldn't you know it, the ONE time I didn't use the zip tie back up, my mount failed in a Pro 1/2 criterium and my camera is GONE. Am now without a camera but can't see putting out $300 for a new HD model if the same mounts are used. Also, I can't see putting my volunteer riders through the risk of crashing onto one of those mounts sticking out. Could be a nasty injury. May be time to shell out some $$$ for a bullet cam of some sort - much safer IMHO. Opinions?

Bif, i find using duct tape gives me that extra security, leaves a bit of residue but easy to clean off.

Sorry to hear about the lost.

In this video (below) my bullet cam and recorder gets knocked off into the water, a roving support boat picks it up and it spends the rest of the race filming up the leg of a surf lifesavers shorts...hahaha ... unknown to him.

Ive often thought of this as mine sits alongside of my helmet getting whacked by trees and such. If it were to fall off, it would be hard to find if not impossible!
Ideas?

P.s. I was thinking about something like those pen cords at the grocery store and banks. The cords are strong and the pads seem to stick well to those counter-tops!

Looks good, should work ok. What about uv degradation in sunlight, some interior plastics break down pretty quick. I like nylon cord.

Hi all ;)

Always the fear of the camera mount coming off yes... This fortunately never happened to me (yet? :|).
On one test vid I made, you can see me constantly checking in my motorbike rear-view mirror if the succion cup is still holding tight... Which is absolutely the case of course

A good tip I was given was to use a fishing line to secure the gopro, seems to me like a good idea as those lines are indeed supposed to resist to quite a weight! (without being too cumbersome, which could be annoying, especially in high speed conditions)
