Shutter button doesn't seem to work

Postby corrado007 on Sun Oct 18, 2009 1:27 pm

I just got my GoPro 5MP wide camera. I opened it, read the directions, put in batteries, and formatted a 1GB SanDisk SD card by plugging the GoPro via USB into my laptop. I can power the camera on and off and toggle between the different modes using the power/mode button but can't select the SET mode or take photos as the shutter button doesn't seem to work. I press the shutter button and nothing happens. I've tried to take a single photo and no light blinks, no sound, and no file stored on the card. Tried to make a video, no blinking light(LED) again, no sound, and no file stored. Nothing. The shutter button seems totally unresponsive. The battery meter shows as full and I just put in brand new, pre-charged Duracell Ni-Mh batteries. Am I missing something or is the camera defective?
Thanks

Try taking a photo or video without the card in the GoPro using the internal memory. Does this work.

No, I've tried that as well.
-tried a 4GB SDHC
-tried a 2GB SD
-tried no card and just internal memory
Nothing. The shutter button is unresponsive in all cases that I have tried.

Then must be faulty, return to dealer.

GoPro support got back to me via e-mail also and said the same thing.
Have you tried out the camera without a SD card inserted? Sometimes a fault with the SD card can cause operational issues, so please be sure to try out the camera without the SD card.

If the shutter button is not activating any functions even without the SD card, then unfortunately there could be a fault with the camera which we would need to service under warranty. Please follow the below warranty return procedure if needed:

Please send the CAMERA ONLY (no housing or accessories) to the following address for review and we will repair or replace it under warranty if the unit is defective.

I'm going to go through the modes one more time and try again with another set of batteries and with and without the SD card just to be sure there's nothing I messed and then I'll send it off to GoPro.
What a bummer but at least GoPro seems willing to take care of the issue.
