Stickie - Youtube export settings for Imovie, Quicktime etc

Postby jamessweet79 » Sun Aug 22, 2010 4:32 am

Hey, just something I have looked into a lot and found very usefull. It is very hard to upload flawless HD to youtube and vimeo on older editing programs and macs, but here is a way!

Choose export- expert settings.

movie to quicktime.

frame rate current, key frames 30, frame reordering on. 5000kbps, quality best

size HD 1280 x 720 (not PAL 16:9) No preserve aspect, No deinterlace

Sound use aac audio, L R 40kbps

Compress for fast start

et voila!

Have a look if you are interested http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Wov7k7YTDI

Hey James,

Thanks for sharing I think that you have made life a hole lot easier for a lot of people by posting this!

Although I don't use IMovie 6 HD i can confirm that these setting work very nicely for both compressor and quicktime pro and they are they are the recommended settings by a lot of pros on vimeo as well (although they prefer a higher audio rate)!!

Rambo, maybe this one should be a sticky????

Once again thanks for sharing!!!

interesting! youtube suggests to turn off "frame reordering", any idea if there's a big difference between those 2 modes?

I am genuinely going insane with this, been using imovie for many years now, and recently got a gopro hd hero 2, however, when ever I upload a file to youtube, it says failed to convert file. Now ive run the raw files through cineform studio, then exported them to .mov files, I then import those files into imovie 11, and even when I don't edit them, I can click the upload to youtube button and it uploads, only to tell me its either failed to convert, not set for fast start streaming, and so on. However, I've tried uploading the same file using the 2 methods above and STILL getting this error, I have no idea whats happened but for some reason I can no longer upload any videos with any settings without getting errors since getting this camera, what am I doing wrong.....
