From xxxxxxx @GoPro Cameras

You can use a 4GB SD card on our new 5MP cameras, but you cannot save a file larger than 2GB or it will corrupt the file. This will change in two weeks when we release an update patch for all of our 5MP cameras that will allow you to use a 4GB SD card and save 4GB files. That's 1 hour and 54 minutes of record time.

And our new 5MP cameras will last for 3 hours and 15 minutes of recording (straight or split up) when using Energizer Lithium AAA batteries. We're still testing run times with NiMH rechargeables but it is looking to be the same.

We're working on a second patch that will allow for 8GB SD cards and 4 hours of recording but the time will be limited by the batteries...3 hours and 15 minutes.

thanks!!! http://www.goprocamera.com

The camera will now have the new firmware version uploaded which will have the following benefits: improved Auto Exposure processing to help in the extreme bright lighting conditions of snow covered slopes, and you can now record up to 4GB in one file.

I have converted my GoPros over to the new firmware and can confirm works great.
Firmware available soon once out of Beta.
UPDATE FIRMWARE NOW AVAILABLE It's out now, go to www.goprocamera.com, click on support and it's the link for the 5Mp wide. Follow the instructions.

for the first time in a while I ran into the 2GB file limit while biking, pissed me off a bit 'cause I lost some good footage. Is there any time frame for the firmware upgrade? Thanks

The freeware "Super" will fix those files nicely. It takes 30 minutes or so. I need to try an 8GB card with external AA batteries to see if it can go over 2 hours with the current firmware. It's the length of battery life that kills the recording when using AAA's (1,000ma) (I get them at Target stores). I've noticed a substantial difference between 900ma and 1,000 ma batteries. Does anyone make a bigger rechargeable AAA battery?

I'll see if i can find out what the delay is. Could be that the focus is on the next round of improvements that I've been told by GoPro are major, think along the lines of , Higher Resolution, improved auto exposure, Mp4 recording format and an intermediate wide angle model.

I'll been promised some samples as soon as they are available.

In the mean time, if i can get permission to post the Firmware Upgrade i have, I'll post a download link here on the forum.
